“Who is professional Pilates teacher, why it cost more and what to expect from your Pilates session”

(NOTE: we are talking here about true and original Pilates, not any other activity using the name “Pilates” for marketing reasons)

So after my relocation to Vietnam I realized many interesting facts about Pilates in Hanoi and would like to share my personal reflections here.

First of all Pilates here is unknown and new, so people don’t know what to expect from it and believe in a quote “ …in 30 sessions you will get a new body”. And it’s possible, but let’s make it clear – quote belongs to Joseph Pilates - creator of the method, genius man lived in last century and created a system also a lot of equipment.

Taking that into account- let not expect a new body from a teacher trained from Youtube.

Talking about professional teacher – it is the person accomplished a minimum 500h hours Teacher training (Pilates Method Alliance requirement), conducted an exam and gained some experience after it (don’t hesitate to ask about it-we all are very proud to share about our school and our amazing Mentors).

Therefore, such a person has a certificate of successful completion of an exam from a recognized Pilates school (some are connected to Pilates Elders (most of – Lolita’s Legacy, Polestar, Basi, Balanced Body, Fletchers Pilates, Romana Pilates ), and some are less known). Training of Pilates teachers includes human anatomy, biomechanics, safety precautions, Mat and equipment training – as a basic set).

Normally it takes 2 years to go through all program.

*Master teacher normally means at least 10 years of experience.

When such a professional meet you in a studio he must be able (after you filled out a health questionnaire):

- To do a postural and physical assessment

- Analyze the posture and outline imbalances

- Create the personal program in studio setting, as well as supportive home program

- explain to a person his postural issues in an understandable, but scientific way

Depending on training some Pilates teacher are qualified to work with special populations (rehab, pre-postnatal, osteoporosis, scoliosis, etc)

If all mentioned above has happened - you can expect:

-huge improvement of your health

-understanding how your body works and applying this principals in your daily routine

-saving on visits to a physiotherapist as a result of a better biomechanics

- improved mood

- happier life ( I’m serious now).

That worth to try a professional, right?:_

Now guess what may happen if you got into non-certified and under-trained teacher with no self experience even?

Remember - we have only one body for one life…
