Neutrality of movement specialist
I have being contemplating a lot about the teacher, being a teacher, teachers role and so on since started Pilates Mentor program with Lolita San Miguel and began to grow teachers. As my field of interest always involved different therapy modalities, as working with body always involves other layers of human - psyche, mind and so on, i came up with one more, valuable for me personally, feature of a good teacher. In Pilates we often speak about the neutral pelvis, the neutral spine, the neutral rib cage. But there is one form of neutrality we almost never name:The Neutral Teacher.A neutral teacher is grounded, centered, emotionally regulated, and clear inside their own boundaries. Their presence creates an environment where change becomes possible — whether in Pilates, movement re-education, or therapeutic manual work.
⸻What Defines a Neutral Teacher?
Grounded in their own body,They feel their feet, breath, and center.
Their energy does not overwhelm the client nor collapse into them.
Emotionally centered
They do not mirror the client’s anxiety or pain, nor do they impose their own inner story.
Their steadiness becomes a container where the client feels safe.
Healthy professional and personal boundaries
They lead without controlling, support without rescuing, and guide without needing validation.
Attuned but not attached
They observe deeply, listen fully, but do not cling to outcomes.
They trust the process.
**And One More Essential Quality:The Teacher Has Walked Their Own Path**
A truly neutral teacher is someone who has:
• spent years in their own personal practice, •
met their own limitations, patterns, fears, compensations, and blind spots,
• and worked through them with honesty and discipline.
Only out of embodied experience can many things be authentically taught.Without this inner work, teaching becomes mechanical, superficial, or even projecting one’s unresolved patterns onto the client. But a teacher who has moved through their own obstacles — physically, emotionally, psychologically — brings something different:clarity, humility, and real authority. Wish all of us be blessed to meet such kind of teachers
