Ped-0-Pull: ultimate postural magic

    The Pilates Ped-o-Pull is one of the classic machines that you probably haven’t heard much about, it is designed by Joseph H. Pilates. It was created to help an opera singer student (Elaine Malbin), to breathe correctly and efficiently with the aim of greater efficiency in singing.

  Pilates Elder Lolita San Miguel recalls that she was working a lot with Ped-o-Pull, when she had her sessions with Carola Trier. They used this apparatus to improve her leg mechanics for the ballet, performing various legwork standing.

   Working on this ( less expensive Pilates equipment) allows correcting posture and alignment. It gives a feedback for creating an axial elongation. It brings up  awareness of the body being upright from the feet to the head.

 We say- we teach a good posture in Pilates, but there is no equipment which can provide such excellent feedback about standing posture. We can maintain neutral while lying down, the we bring this skill to seating and at the end – it’s “a must” to challenge this skill in standing. 

Being upright we walk in to the studio, and the same way we leave it. And we do want give to the body practical information - how to be better standing and walking.

  Ped-o-pull it is a teacher itself, that gives a support to the student and helps us to observe him and thus, teach him to correct himself. 

  It forces us to align our feet and strengthen them. It is perfect and indicated in the case of breathing training (thoracic expansion) something to take into account in these days that we live. It helps us in the training and stabilization of the shoulder girdle . It gives a visual feedback about tracking of the knees when working in front of the mirror.

Result: we get a real tool to create a good posture and a habit to recreate it in everyday life.

  From my personal experience – it also give a nice sense of centering and clearing the mind, be more focused and confident. Whenever I feel a bit out of center, my first choice is to practice with Ped-o-pull, breathing, aligning the upper and lower body.

What else is great about it?

It requires less space, pretty inexpensive, simple, yet magically effective!

After working with it you have a sense that pole behind your back stays with you.

This apparatus can be taught in private and mini-group setting and require training on Pilates principals, spinal mechanics, postural alignment and knowing exercises itself.
