What is MET (muscle energy technique)? And when Pilates teacher may use it?
☝️Do you have the clients who is VERY TIGHT?
⠀
When you try to give them stretching exercises, but nothing happens and instead of stretching the muscle you want - they do completely different movement, compensating for not effective movement in a targeted area.
⠀
In this case the BEST SOLUTION is MET- Muscle energy technique.
⠀
Muscle energy technique (MET) is a type of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) developed by Fred Mitchell, Sr, D.O., in 1948, designed to improve musculoskeletal function through mobilizing joints and stretching tight muscles and fascia, to reduce pain, and to improve circulation and lymphatic flow. These methods are unique as they are “active” techniques, requiring the Client/patient to perform isometric contractions.
⠀
Muscle energy technique varies in time and application style:
⠀
- Naturally lengthens shortened hypertonic muscles
- Can be used to strengthen weak muscles
- Prepare muscle for upcoming stretches
-Increasing Joint mobility
-Boosts the blood flow
-Improving myoskeletal function
⠀
We will discuss application of this method to the working with spine in a “Spine&postural assessment workshop” 15-16 of January 2022!
